Community Call: Responsible Data for Social Justice Organisations

Joshua Sehoole

This year, we’ve been working with Ugandan social justice organisation Albinism Umbrella as part of our Matchbox support program.

As Albinism Umbrella works to strengthen their responsible data policies and practices, they want to encourage similar efforts among their peers. So together we are hosting a community call about responsible data on Monday, June 27th, at 3PM EAT/2PM CET. We invite resource-constrained social justice actors with interest or experience in strengthening their organisation’s responsible data management practices to join us.

About Albinism Umbrella

Founded in 2017, Albinism Umbrella engages the community to reduce the vulnerability of persons with albinism, to promote and protect the interests of persons with albinism and to prevent the violation of the rights of persons with albinism. Within Matchbox, we’ve been supporting Albinism Umbrella to ensure that they collect, manage and store data in equitable and responsible ways.

Bringing together a community of practitioners

The hour-long community call will take place on Monday, June 27th, at 3PM EAT/2PM CET. Responsible Data practitioners Paola Verhaert and Amos Doornbos will be joining us and discussing how to identify potential data risks and harms, as well as responsible data management when dealing with vulnerable populations. We’ll also have Alicja Peszkowska talking to us about the Responsible Data Community.

This call is intended to bring together a community of practitioners: anyone with an interest or experience in strengthening their organisation’s responsible data management practices is welcome to participate. There will be space on the call for participants to engage, share their own experiences and brainstorm potential solutions to challenges they may have.

Join the community call!

The community call will be held in English and hosted via Big Blue Button. You can register here.
